Georges H.V. Collot was born in Chalons-surMarne in 1751 or 1752, and died in Paris in July, 1805. He was named governor of Guadeloupe, and after much political strife, he was able to reorganized the government in 1793. The following year the British, after taking Martinique, came to Guadeloupe and forced Collot to surrender. In 1796 he ascended the Mississippi and Ohio rivers as far as Cincinnati, making a survey of their courses, and cherishing the ambition of uniting French Canada with Louisi...
